problem in installing GDM

help!
i have problem in installing linux
while installing linux it gets halt while installing the packages and there is a message that it is due to media faliure or other hardware problemes
i dont know why this is happening

please comment

which kind of media did u use?cdrom or nfs or ftp?

i use cdrom for installing
i can install it on my friends laptop
but while installing it on my pc it does not get installed
i can install other packages but cannot install the gdm package which
is a x window interface
i am using this for the first time and. i dont know why this is happening
whether it is the hardware which is not supporting!!!!
because of this i am not able to study red hat linux

please help
 

I thik problem is that you try to use very old version of linux on very modern hardware.
Try use last version of Linux for correct instalation on your PC.
