Problem in connecting two computers(network cable unplugged,

Hello
My problem started when I bought a laptop (asus f83vf) and I wanted to make it connected to my PC(with onboard LAN connector on it), in order to do that I bought a 5m cross over cat5e cable .
And I did some configurations on them


Here is my configurations:

The problem is that my LAN network does not work. In Network Connections, it has the status: " network cable unplugged." When I enable it
and ipconfig /all returns:
Media State ........ : Media Disconnected.


***** a very strange thing happens when I disable /enable Local Area Connection on PC before enabling Local Area Connection for a second it shows "connected"!!!!! But it changes to "network cable unplugged" again.


*** I did some research to try and fix the problem and this is what I did:
1-Turned off firewall
2-Update both drivers to latest version
3-reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

4-Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog
5-test cable with multi-meter and make sure it is OK & a crossover cable
6-reinstal win xp
7-change configuration of both systems listed above many times but it didn’t work.
8- these commands work OK on PC and LAP
"ping 127.0.0.1"
"ping localhost"

Hello.... i saw you topic and i would like to help although it's been a while.

i think your problem resides in the hardware level, so nothing to configure since regardless of the ip configuration you should get a "plugged in" network card whenever u plug it to another computer or switch, then the configuration comes later on to allow the connectivity in order to reach the other computer.

So i think u either have a stright throw cable which u need to replace it with a cross over one, or one of your network adapters in mulfunctioning.
Check the RJ-45 wire colors to check if it is really a cross over cable, the orange and white orange wires on one end should be replaced with green and white green wires on the other side and vice versa.

thanks for your reply ,i still have that problem!

i am SURE the cable IS an CrossOver one i checked it with my Multimeter(and the colors are replaced as you said.)

what did you mean by "or one of your network adapters in malfunctioning"????????

how should i find the thing causing this???

hello again,
so the cable is ok...sorry for the typing mistake, i meant one of your network adapters is malfunctioning which is either the laptop or the desktop
i suggest to try with another computer, maybe a third laptop(or a switch) from a friend and connect it first to your laptop and check if it shows plugged it, and then connect it to your pc and check the same. this will narrow down the options and know which adapter is working and which is not.
