Hi,

I need some help with my PID control loop. My question is how can you get a compensator to map and output a certain range of values? i.e. for each error, i would like to map to some voltage between 1 to 10 volts, which are fed into another block in my power supply design.

So far, i have a plant which sends an output voltage value to be compared with a set point. the combination of these two is used to create an error voltage, which is fed into a PID transfer function. The resulting output is some number (i assume it to no longer be the error voltage), which is really small (i.e. in the range of 1*10^-3) How can i map these values to a voltage to be fed into the next stage of my power supply? i.e. if PID output is 0.001, then, set value to 2.7volts.

in summary, how can i change my compensator or what should i add after my compensator such that my actuator receives the correct range of input? I don't think i can just scale this value (e.g. increase the gain of my compensator). Any ideas?

You can increase the gain, provided your PID implementation supports the dynamic range you are looking for.
Other option is add non inverting gain block after PID stage.
