I am sorry that i have no experience with Vehical Detection or object Detection...
Only work that i know is Face Detection and it is also based on Skin Tone Detection..... I think u need to read Pattern Recognition like thing............

matlab code for gabor filter for edge detection

Hi,
Gabor filters are localised filters i.e they are localised both in time and in frequency. Due to this they are useful in extracting sub-band features in images. But the disadvantage of this filters is that they are not orthogonal implies that the features obtained are not independent of each other.
Also gabor filters are directional filters. I remember reading a paper which discuss using gabor filters directional property for edge detection. Unfortunately I do not have the paper now.
In that the directional property of gabor filters is used to evaluate a probability that an edge is present in that direction. Based on this a vector map was created and were made to flow in the direction of maximum probability.
So gabor filters are used for extracting features from the image and these features are used for further processing like edge detection etc.
I will try getting the paper, if possible.
