One of possible choices can be a data logger with real-time-clock, A/D converter, LCD display and RS-232 serial port.
The logger can take data from a temperature sensor every minute (or so) and store it in a RAM and then calculate everage 1h value and send the calculated value in ASCII format trough RS-232 port to any host computer or display this value locally on a LCD display.
is a good project but an addition to this is that via Rs 232 port you can put it on a PC and through webserver and ASP pages put it on a URL so this data can be viewed from any where in the world
