This device was constructed, based on a standard circuit with NE555 used as a generator. It's cased in a small, standard z17 housing. The housing has cooling holes on the top and bottom.
Electrical elements:
  • power supply on toroid (12V,100W)
  • 25A rectifying bridge
  • 2 x filtrating capacitor 6800uF/45V
  • main transistor IRF640 (instead of IRF830) – it heats less
  • the hi tension transformer is from an old TV, the secondary winding has two outputs: one connected to the bulb holder, and the second one to the ground of the housing). The primary winding has 10 coils.
The board was made by thermo-transfer method.
Something about the front and rear panel: it was designed in Corel, printed and glued to the housing. To secure it, a transparent tape was glued to it.
The device works stable, doesn't heat much and can work very long. The photos were made when a 200W bulb was placed in the holder.
