Hi All,

Need your suggestion on choosing between PIR sensor (HC-SR501) vs Radar Sensor(RCWL-0516) for my intrusion detection alarm system. I tried with both the sensors and there results do not completely match for intrusion detection. Hence got confused which one to choose for building better security system. I found both do not detect motion during there idle time zone for few seconds (based on their datasheet). I am looking for security purpose hence can not bear false positive and can not miss any true positive.

Please let me know if any one has other idea of using different type sensor also for such situations.

Thanks

What is "idle time zone"? A trigger delay? Radar sensors have the problem of "seeing" through walls, usually unwanted for a burglar alarm.

yes it is same "trigger delay". it seems some times some scenarios they do not detect at all even delay is over. the main thing is i am not very satisfied with either of them. not sure what type of alarm industry uses for such things.

Can you use both and maybe a photosensor/detector as well? Without seeing the plans of your building it is difficult to advise.

Brian.
can you please suggest any photo sensor to which i can start with? it should be minimum 4-5 meter detection range.

Search for IR sensors and interrupters.
Something like these but ideally with greater range:
**broken link removed**
Note that if you use these the range can be greatly extended by using lenses to focus the beam and that you need to send a steady square wave at about 38KHz to the emitter. Your MCU may be able to do this already or you can use a simple NE555 timer.

Brian.

got it ...thanks
