[SOLVED] PHY, MAC+PHY and taking MAC Adress From IEEE

Hello,

My company is working on a project which will allow us to connect our products to a LAN of a factory. Our future purpose is to reach our product via Internet.

I have several questions:

1_When i need only PHY interface, when i need MAC+PHY interface?

2_Can i connect my poduct to a LAN only with PHY interface IC?

3_If i need MAC interface , is it essential to take a "special" MAC adress from IEEE in order to connect our products to a "LAN without Internet"?

for questions 1 and 2 have a look at

the answer to question 3 is no your don't need a unique IEEE MAC address for a LAN not connected to the internet.
We would assign local MAC addresses (usually linked to the IP address)
However, if you later connected to the internet you can get chips with EUI-48 and EUI-64 addresses
