I'm in the process of having a 4-layer PCB manufactured and i'd like to get some recommendation of good vendors. I have previously worked with a Chinese board house and i got the below quote from them:

4 layers 0.062", FR4 1oz HAL+gold fingers 4.75"x4" , two side silk
4pcs USD400
250pcs Setup USD200 USD6/pcs
1000pcs Setup USD200 USD5/pcs

Is this a reasonable "China price"? I'm in Southern California and would also consider local companies.

YOU CAN MAKE YOUR BOARD FROM ALTANOVA OR FROM PYCON, ALTANOVA IS WORKING ON LOAD BOARDS AND PYCON MAKE BOARD FOR BURN IN TEST. IF YOU HAVE COMMERCIAL KIND OF BOARD THEN YOU CAN TURN TO NEXLOGIC

Thanks. I have now found a couple of Chinese manufactures with great price (around $250 for 4 proto boards).

why in the world would anybody make anything in China? IP protection is non-existent, quality is shabby ... unless your making real cheap commodity boards, I'd recommend staying in North America

gigahertz:
because of Cina is cheaper...

In Shenzhen, electronics center of China, 4-layer PCB NRE is about $280, die(a kind of filter for SMT) is $150.
And with the 4layer PCB price of $0.027 per square cm.
You can caculate your cost.

The quality is also good. I always design PCB up to 24layers in China.

After working in many countries with different pcb vendors and doing audits I can tell you for sure that there is good and bad everywhere and to pick on certain suppliers as being "shabby" based purely on geographical location is pure nonsense.

National pride is one thing, but when the statements are inaccurate it does not make us look too good does it?

We are in a global market now, its about time manufacturers woke up to that fact and did something about it. Throwing mud is just unprofessional.

By all means, name & shame these "shabby" suppliers and IP thieves.

Actually the quality of the PCB from China is often very high. Especially from the volume shops.

Given that the bulk of multilayers, not just single sided low tech shots, that are used in your PC motherboards, graphics cards and fantastic games consoles that people love to play all come from Asia I really don't understand why people make silly statements like this.

A lot of companies have now changed from "made in .... " to "assembled in..." on their labels now to incorporate parts sourced from foreign sources.

I have had more issues with home grown fab houses than I have ever had from China/Asia and at less than 1/2 the price and NO attitude issues, only fantastic service. The bad attitude and defensive posture automatically adopted by home grown suppliers is our biggest weakness against any competition.

If you can get your PCB from China and you like the quality and cost then just stick with the supplier.

If you can get your PCB from a local supplier and you like the quality and cost then just stick with the supplier.

There is no golden formula and no magic manufacturing location better than another, only your quality and budget reuirements than need to be fullfilled.

:F

FYI: I received the PCBs a few weeks ago and i must say i am very happy with the result. The PCBs were finished in a few days time and the shipping only took two day via air express. The quality is outstanding and i will go with the same manufacturer for my production series.

The company i recommend is:
Shen Zhen K-better Electrical Co.

China MUST recognize IP protection laws of any and all respective countries they do business with. My designs are far too advanced to play Russian Roulette with IP protection risks. Pick up any issue of a trade journal and there will be a story of how either some ideas got ripped off or the quality was shabby. No thank you.
