I am using orcad 16.5 and I have a a design with multiple instances of the same schematic page based hierarchical block. I believe this makes it a 'complex' design.

The problem I have is that every instances of this block contains part R1, part C1, part U1, etc... I have tried to reannotate using 'unconditional' and 'update occurrences' but every time I do this every part across all instances of the block is annotated to the same refdes again.

I can manually change the refdes independently in each instance of the block... but that is way too much work.

Answer: Unckeck "Reset reference numbers to begin at 1 in each page" in the Annotate dialog.
