open collector output doubt

assume my sensor is operated at 5v and it is open collector output, how to connect open collector output to micro controller, i must use any pull up resistor?
 

Use a 10k pullup. Open Collector or Open drain Outputs means that the collector or drain of internal transistor or mosfet is not connected to VCC or VDD. So, the sensors that need to be interfaced with 5V MCUs will tolerate 5V on digital IO or Analog pins. So, put a 10k pullup resistor on the output pin of sensor. Interface it also to MCUs digital input pin. What sensor are you using. Mention part number. Is it a hall sensor ?
