ofdm simulation of PA for ads

Hi guys,

I have currently a 60 GHz PA block that i would like to run an ACPR and EVM simulation to check its linearity. IMD3 and IIP3 have been ran.

Would like to do it in the ADS environment but looking at the OFDM transmitter design guide, i have no idea how to go about doing it

1) OFDM or 64QAM is more suitable for 60GHz?
2) Is there a block i can replace straight away with my 60 GHz PA? I see some upconvert and downconvert blocks but I am not able to change the components... and the parameters I need to set for the simulation are?
3) The simulation is being done at 60GHz or do I have to downconvert to a lower frequency?

Sorry for the seemingly newbie questions as I am very very new to system level simulation. Have been doing component level simulations. It would be good that if someone can point to me a really dummy's guide to it.

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,

1-I think If there are few carriers QAM is better in term of complexity,Recovery,Coding, etc. but if there are many carriers and the bandwidth cannot handle them, OFDM is the single choice. This is my personal opinion, someone expert may say something more concrete.
2-There are many modulated signal sources in ADS.You have to do "Transient Envelope Simulation" to see nonlinear metrics of your PA.These are EVM, Constallation Diagrams, ACPR etc.
3-No way..

Hi BigBoss,

Thanks for the reply. I will work on whatever advice you'd given and wait for others to give their inputs as well

Hi All,

Sorry i have some questions pertaining to the OFDM transmitter block in ADS again.
I am running for 60GHz and have changed the parameters accordingly. I have also changed the RF PA to that of mine because I want to check the ACPR results of the RF PA that I have designed.

However, there is one thing in the default simulation setup that I do not understand as I do not have the system level background. The data rate of 20Mb/sec was the default setup and it showed tx_symbols = 80.

Will this affect anything if say I am expecting a data rate of about 2-4Gb/sec? what I have to change in the setup to reflect this to accurately model this?
Thanks in advance!

I have changed the Tstep, end time, IF frequency, LO frequency to reflect the change from 5.2GHz (default design guide) to 60GHz
