This is another circuit i found recently. I built it and it seems this is working fine. When leads are shorted the meter reads fsd and to infinity when leads are open. When connected to caps the meter read between 8-10 scale on 10v range. Is this normal? Can this circuit be taken as the suitable one for testing in-circuit caps?

It's not a good idea to measure caps in-circuit, because you will be measuring the cap and whatever else it is connected to.

This thread should be part of his original thread about an ESR meter using a 555.

This circuit also has the capacitor being tested that is shorting the output of the 555 which will destroy the 555 if the 9V battery is good.
The circuit does not measure the ESR of the capacitor, instead it measures the output resistance of the 555 and the diode.
