what is the benfits of logic gates of the max232 in figure below

NOT gates inside the MAX232? It inverts data. If data at RS232 side is 10011001 then data at TTL side will be 01100110.

i ask about the nand gates what is the purpose of this connection.do you think i dont know "not gate"!

It can't be answered looking at that circuit. Post the full circuit. We have to see all the connections of the NAND and NOR gates.

Makes much more sense when we can see how they are connected!

Pin 16 of the MCU is used to route the incoming and outgoing signals to one or the other serial port (Main or Aux).
