Need to charge battery NiCad 3.6v !

I need a circuit to charge my battery NiCad 3.6v 600mah. And i want to know can i do it with LM317 and input voltage = 4.5 v Ac . Thanks a lot !

4.5vac converted to dc will be 4.5 * 1.414 = ~6.3vdc.
Take a look at the datasheet:

I would say NO, the voltage is to low, you need at least 7.5Vdc to make the LM317 working properly (in this application) with almost no safety margin left ..
Keep in mind that when the 3.6V NiCad battery is charged the final voltage will be ≈4.35V - fully charged and on top of that one needs ≈3V for the LM317 ..
