I built last year a spot weld to weld inox slab.
I used a tranformer of about 3kVA where I rewing the secondary with a 10mm^2 insulated wire, about 4 turns.
Very important is the pliers. I used two electrolitic copper tips.
however to build battery pack you don't need too much power and everything is less critical. Use a pedal as switch.
