Hello, I have solved (a) but not (b).
what is that equation meaning? I can only guess 0.25λ is open-short convert.

Hi,

you are starting in the smith chart at the open point, z_L = ∞. As this is the load, you are turning clockwise towards the generator, where the half circle represents 0.25 • λ. On top there is the remaining distance until you are reaching z_L = 2j. So you will end up with 0.25 • λ + 0.176 • λ = 0.426 • λ.
