varistor selection
Hi guys. I am new to this site and have a problem that I am sure you can help with.
I have a basic circuit driving a solonoid. the circuit consists of a diode brige that gives a peak voltage of 300V, peak current 45 A at 100 Hz.. The cables are 120 meters long ( screened ) with lots of interference from magnetic field switching etc. The circuit then gets switched by a solid state relay. I have measured spikes of 1000 V at 10µS over the relay, I guess these spikes are switching the relay on as I have measured 100mS pulses thru the relay. The 16A incommer breaker trips
and 100mS pulses of 150 A is not uncommon.
My question is.. WIll a varistor clamp these spikes and is there a better option than a varistor.
I need 120 to equip the bank of solonoids before I can even guess wheter this would work. A delightfull waste should it be the wrong device..
Thanks
