Hi,

I would suggest multi antenna wireless communication systems. There is very hot area of research that is MIMO precoding specially u can use some dirty paper coding techniques for the precoding and analyse MIMO system performance.

Telecommunication is very wide sphere: networks (wireless, fixed, data, sensor...), microwave and RF technics. For example you can create project about UMA (unlicensed mobile access),3G indoor mobile access through Wi-Fi equipment and calculate economical practicability.
