I'm sorry if this is posted in the wrong area, I'm new and not familiar with a lot of the terminology. I'm interested in using a fingerprint scanner to operate my cars ignition system. I would like the fingerprint scanner to turn on the cars power as well as energize a button that will run a relay to activate the starter solenoid. I'm not sure what other controllers or components I will need to make this work. I'm hoping somebody will know how to do this and can help me out.

If your objective - to protect the vehicle from theft, then consider the option to buy a ready-made device. The first thing that find on the Internet - BIOCODE AUTO-M10.

But if you need to develop such a device, start by selecting the finger probe. Based on its parameters then select the appropriate microcontroller. Connect to microcontroller output the relays or transistors, which will control the relays in the car. Possible this project for a beginner too complicated.

Thanks for the response. I'm not really so much trying to protect it fom theft, i just think it would be cool. I'm very familiar with the electrical system of the car being a mechanic. Its also a very simple electrical system being that it is not fuel injected. I'm just not sure how to go about selecting the components, what specs to look for, compatability etc. I know once i have the components figured out i can definetly make it work.
