Need help for :compilation process in Host & target mach

For host & target machine how whole process for compiling, linking & loading take place internally, how the memory for code & variable allocated at host & target board side for typical embedded systems? pls. explain?

A really good question .... I am also looking for the answer of the same question ....
but wht I came to know is that most of the global variables are temporarily stored in the registers for quickest calculation ...then flashed to its original memory locations of the RAM....
may be it is ...as I am not sure ...this is one another question from me to all ......
