students attendance using embedded system

Dear All,
I want to build a "time and attendance machine", and currently I still confuse to decide which microcontroler/microprocessor to use. I need your sugestion, which microcontroller the best for this application. My "time and attendance machine" will be have specifications below
1. Using embedded web server, TCP/IP
2. RS232 Port
3. RS485 Port
4. MMC card, for data collecting
5. Finger scanner for identification and verification

Please help me to make decision.
MCS51 series, MSP430, Rabbit-microprocessor, ARM7, ARM9 or what?

Thank a lot
Siswanto

Hello Siswanto,
Perhaps you should take a look at Sparkfun's offerings. They have a wide range of boards made by Olimex, sporting a lot of different ARM processors. This link will open to the LPC page, but they have good MSP boards too. https://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/categories.php?cPath=2_25
Some boards meet almost all of your specs, and the prices, and support are quite good.

I like your project, so keep us all informed on how it is going, ok?

Best wishes,
Robert
