4th Year Design Project

Hello,

My group has settled on an idea for our 4th year design project. Basically, it will be a 360 degree environmental monitor for cars - sensing things like obsticals and providing visual/audible feedback for the driver. This is to aid in things like accidents caused by switching lanes, or tailgating. I am pretty sure automotive mfr's are already working on this, but this will be an aftermarket solution.

Anyway, I was just hoping to solicit 2 types of ideas from you guys:
a) What features do you think would be beneficial for such a project?
b) What sensors would be good for this application?

Appreciate your help, thank you.
