Need a small, flat switch or sensor that detects shaking.

Not sure if this is would be a vibration sensor or switch.

It doesn't need to take in and report out data, just a simple "ON" once shaken.

Ideally no thicker than a coin, maybe some sensitivity adustment (or different switches with different sensitivities to choose from).

A very good bunch of options here

They look like they'd work great, but might be more than I need. I'm not sure if there's a more scaled-back sensor or maybe even an analog switch of some sort that would be cheaper.

I guess analog stuff is bigger though

Mechanical switches are bigger, but there is a great selection of "ball activated" switches of varying sizes.

Mercury switches are also fairly small, but hard to come by these days. Old wall thermostats frequently have small glass encapsulated mercury switches that can be removed from the bimetallic coil on which they ride.

Because of the volume of devices I intend to make, I like the price of the smallest sensor ($3.75) in the first reply, and am hoping there are even cheaper sensors of about that size.

It'd be ok to lose some functionality, as long as the final device it's in could detect the kind of vibration similar to a person trying to guess what's in a box by shaking it.

Whoops!! The link in my reply above is the wrong one. I was trying to point you to surface mounted ball activated switches. They are small and cheap.
