sipex rs485 isolation

I want multiple isolated and selectable RS232/RS485 ports (8 or more) in an embedded PC running Linux.

I have seen some comercial PCI or Ethernet solutions, but all of them are expensive. The PC104 solution is also expensive.

I am thinking about doing my own hardware with a USB HUB chip, ftdichip, isolation barrier and a Sipex RS232/RS485 selectable chip.

Does anybody have experience in this?
What about the Linux driver? I should write a new one or there is something I can use for this purpose.

Thank´s in advance!
