An in depth and realistic specification of the overall requirements might be very helpful. That can be a lot more difficult than it at first appears.
No good telling the engineer we need to monitor the position of a moving part.
With what resolution, what error, what speed of response and how frequently must it be measured ?
Unfortunately planning meetings involving many completely unrelated disciplines can often come up with some very unrealistic and impractical expectations.
You need an electronics guru that is also an unashamed car nut, not just an electronics specialist.
Somebody with a long track record of successful commercial electronic R&D that races motorbikes at the weekend, or has built his own hot rod for example.
