Hello members.
I searched the forum & net, but couldn't found a reliable answer.

As I know, RC oscillator can be used as a clock source for PIC mcu. But is it possible to use them for an 8051 like 89c2051/89c51??
I tried to experiment it but my mcu was freezed. It didn't run...
I don't need accurate timing.

Any other such simple oscillator or any diagram help???

Thanks..

Re: RC oscillator as clock source for 8051...

It's been a long time, but I believe the 8051 needs either a crystal or an external oscillator, you can't use an RC like the PIC. But you can make a pretty inexpensive oscillator from an inverter, cap and resistor.

Long time...indeed.
The 8051 is so old, that it may still employ a dynamic architecture. If so, an accurate clock is required.

Haven't read the datasheet in decades.
