What is difference between Laser diodes and laser modules? How does one choose between them depending on the application? Does a laser module require any driver circuit?

I wish to build a laser transmitter in the visible range, which can travel upto 700 meters with minimum beam divergence. I also want to mount this on a motor so that it rotates at about 600 rpm.

I don't know how to choose between a laser diode and a laser module.

Please help!

Laser diode is only a single laser in open mode, it has its own beam divergence(specified in datasheets). when you turned on the total power is spread to total beam area, to 700mtrs range, the area will be so high as you cannot capture it.

In laser modules they use same diode and they place optics based on the beam divergence of the laser diode. Due to this the beam is pointed to single point of area. With the help of this you will able get a beam of pointed at 700mtrs range.
