hi everyone,
one of the reasons for power theft is reversing the analog meter. And i have read that in electromechanical meters the leftmost (odd positions) rotate clock-wise & the other's all anti-clock wise.(correct me if i am wrong).
so how will they start reading when the connections are reversed ..plz explain with example.

Re: electric power theft

You need special device to rotate electric meter in oposite direction ....

Re: electric power theft

Consider that AC electricity changes direction from 100-120 times per second, running in reverse half the time. Yet the meters run forward all the time. That should be all that's required to figure out what happens if you reverse the connections.

Re: electric power theft

what special devices?
if u just reverse the phase with neutral & neutral with phase then the meter decrements and hence we can say that the meter is running in opposite direction

ok so u mean though i reverse the connection it's not to be considered as power theft .
well rather there is no power theft at all when i reverse my meter connections.
but the above mentioned condition is a very rampant practise commited by people & it's also mentioned that the meter reverses i.e it starts decrementing.

Re: electric power theft

The issue of some of the dials rotating counterclockwise and some clockwise is nothing to do with software theft. It is simply that the dials are attached to gears and each pair of gears reverses the direction of rotation.
