hi guys i am doing project on spartan6 fpga board and now my projects requirment is to display live video captured by camera so please any body explain which protocol needed to interfacing camera and is is possible with spartan 6 or not???

You need to know what the camera interface is first.

Does it output ASI, HDMI, VGA, or something else entirely?

Regardless Spartan 6 isn't that slow of a device, so you can probably implement most video interfaces without too much of a problem.

Rasberry Pi camera module is one option which can be interfaced with Spartan6 SERDES fabiric.

I want to display live video capture by camera on vga (800*600), i have working vga synchronization circuit(.vhd file) now please tell me on wich protocol the camera will be interface? and as i am using spartan6 fpga board is there any external circuit? describe the flow please.....

thanks primozb but it can not done without using rasberry pie ??? because i never used rasberry pie ever..

There is open source project to interface Rasberry Pi camera module to Xilinx ZYNQ PL. There you could find some starting points for how to interface camera module to get picture frames into FPGA. Search also in forums for how to interface MIPI camera module (Rasberry Pi camera is MIPI CSI-2) to the LVDS ports (SERDESs). I'm sure you will find some hits.
Other part of story is how to output frames to VGA, HDMI, .... There is also DSI (Display Serial Interface).

Don't know if this helps, but I can connect my inexpensive digital camera directly to my tv, and see live video. I plug the camera into the yellow jack.

It works with both my digital and old-fashioned analog tv's. I select the 'video' input.

Brad, I hope this is just a joke...

The OP is probably stuck in a location that likely has less than competent university professors that assign unrealistic assignments (using antiquated technology) that they expect their students to just buy a pre-made project online (probably from the profs project generating company). Yeah, I'm cynical.

Well in this case the OP is supposed to design a camera to Spartan6 board to TV. Later we will probably hear the instructor has added the requirement that the students have to rescale the image, crop, or do something equally banal.

I think that's why I wasn't sure my experience would help. I plugged the camera into the tv as a 'let's see' type of experiment. The fact that it succeeded was a pleasant surprise. It opened up new possibilities. Suddenly I could videotape my own home movies. Show my family themselves on tv.

As for the question about hooking up a camera to a VGA monitor, I'm not sure how similar it is to a tv. Perhaps it is easy, but there is also the risk of ruining valuable equipment. I well remember trying various ways, to get a proper color display from my Macintosh IIsi (ca 1993). Tried different switch settings on the cable adapter, etc. Don't know what I did, but I broke the internal video driver circuit. I had to install a video card, $350.

You're still missing the fact that the OP has to have an FPGA board between the camera and the TV/monitor. So the OP has to handle both camera output format (whatever it might be) and a VGA output to the monitor/TV.

camera interfacing with spartan6

hello friends..
i am doing project on spartan6 that requires camera interfacing with fpga and display live video capture on vga monitor ,i had google it but i dont know which protocol it uses and much memory it consume ?is it require any external module?or spartan6 is enough?

small help also appreciate..

thanks..
