Greetings to the forum,

I have re-posted this from the Analog IC Design & Layout forum, which I guess is for designing ICs, not using them in larger circuits. If the moderators could delete the thread in the Analog IC Design forum and leave this thread, I would appreciate that.

I am looking for a way to modify the PWM output (0.0v-11.6v) of a fan controller channel to be used as the pin 1 VCC input for an IC MIC502, which also gives PWM output. This is using a 12v DC power supply. This is basically putting two fan controller circuits in series, controller 1 providing the control signal to controller 2, but not providing the power.

If I understand how the IC works, any input to pin 1 of 3.4v or less will result in a 0% output duty cycle from the IC. Any input of 8.6v or greater will result in a duty cycle of 100%. The first fan controller output range would need to be compressed from 0.0v-11.6v to something like 4v-8.5v, and I don't know the significance of the output being a PWM signal (if the needs to be cleaned up somehow to control the IC). Since the final output of the IC will be starting a motor, I will need to figure out the minimum start voltage. For that reason (since motor start voltages vary quite a bit), it would be helpful if the circuit could be adjusted for this factor (minimum output from the IC). I don't know if you could use something like a trimmer pot for that.

...anyway, I have very little knowledge of this sort of thing, so I hope I have posted in the right place and I hope I have made the problem clear. Please let me know if any additional information would be helpful

Thanks, :D

I thought there would be a few replies to this, it really doesn't seem like the problem is that significant. Is there some major issue with this concept that I am missing? Is the question unclear?
