Miniature usb capslocker

23_1253304765.jpg

As the name said, it is device that can be plugged to usb to irritate PC user. The principle is very simple: after plugged, you can see it in windows as a usb keyboard, and after some time (randomize periot) send “capslock” code. So once turning on caps lock, after turning off (of course if your victim wan’t find trick) it’s a HID tool so doesn’t need any drivers and works in plug and play mode. Dimensions 2,5mmx11mmx12mm so almost all device can hide in usb slot, and if you place it at the back panel it’s very difficult to find.
Author of this project, Garett Mace, describe capslocker at swojej stronie

Heart of this system is microcontroller Attiny45, that consist 4kB flash ram, in this case was clocked by inside generator 8MHz with PLL. It can calibrate own clock, basing on USB data clock. Project is based on another project of Easy Logger Easy Logger

Additional elements are: resistors 68 ohm that limiting current at data line, resistor 1k5 as a pullup for line D – that allow to hide device as a slow speed and two zeners diodes 3V3 (author had forgotten about them) that limiting current at data line. Board is designed be myself. Board dimension are 11mmx12mm. Laminat should have 0,5-0,75mm so it can suite to usb slot with attiny45 that is the biggest element (1,75). USB slot can hide up to 2,5mm tool. Elements side must be covered by isolating layer – could be lacquer to avoid electric contact with usb slot cover.
