I am looking at writing some software for the PIC18C658 PIC as supplied by MicroChip. I have been trying to work out how to get ethernet with it when I came across these forums.
I have been considering using the Realtek RTL8019AS Single Chip Ethernet Controller/Transciever but am unsure as to connecting this to the PIC as it seems to have an ISA bus.
Can anyone here help me, it doesn't have to be the Realtek controller but does have to be a PIC in the Microchip pic18x family. Just a sample schematic on connecting it would be fine, I can write any code required....
I have noticed this but I cannot justify the cost as all I require is a schematic or details of the pins to use between the Ethernet Controller and the PIC. My knowledge of electronics however prevents me from doing this as there are over 100 pins on the Realtek controller.
If you just want to connect to ethernet easily without writing tons of code to support TCP/UDP protocol stack - take a look at LANTRONIX XPORT.
All you need is serial interface port without the transceiver and interface
to that unit. The Lantronix comes with an RJ-48 and a 80186 CPU all
build into a RJ48 socket. The performance is not that great, but then
who cares if you're using a PIC uproc
