Metronome show beat time, so it’s useful tool for young players at any instruments. First constructions had been mechanical. You could set pendulum higher or lower to get faster or slower rhythm.
Here’s electronic version of that tool. Using NE555 device is really easy and fast to build, but it want be full version of real metronome. It will beat the rhythm, and show on flashing diode, but you wan’t see pendulum. Of course Pendulum is not necessary in electric construction, but is very helpful to keep right rhythm .

- tuning fork function (gives sound with 440Hz frequency that is similar to A sound. Most instruments are tuned to A sound.

Main element is ATMEGA8 microcontroller. It is clocked by outside ceramic resonator with 8MHz frequency. Piezoelectric speaker is connected to it. Speaker is connected via NPN transistor to get better sound level in case of direct plugged microcontroller.
Pendulum is displayed thanks to 16 LEDs that are connected directly to microcontroller output.
To control device we have two microswithes. One is for increasing speed, second for decreasing. By pushing both at the same time we get metrum mode. Holding both buttons for5 seconds allow us to hear A sound.
System is powered by 9V battery, that is plugged thought voltage stabilizer 7805
Casing is made from old CD ROM and PCV.
