It is a home made guitar effect for guitar Metal Simplex.

Schematic of the simple effect:

It was made of two transistors and a LED. Then a PCB and housing was added. Some modifications were made to provide the correct and satisfactory sound.

Double potentiometer was applied for „gain” and it consists of combined 100K and 22K (it can be made two double potentiometers by changing their bottom halves). The additional potentiometer inserted betweeen transistors 1 and 2 causes change of characteristics from overdrive to distortion. Different transistors were tested, but finally BC546B was chosen. There is also an additional capacitor which improves the operation of „tone” potentiometer.

LED can be placed outside the housing and thus you have a meter.
