Memory allignment in an embedded system

My basic question is not something on the difference in memory but the spacing of memory in the processor design.

I've seen small scale embedded systems have their ATCM and BTCM placed some distance apart in the address space. Why is it so?

And another question is how does Cache and TCM differ physically?
And another question is why we could not have a bigger ROM memory defined in TCM for placing the entire boot code?
