Mechanical limitation of microphones

Are microphones designed so that they have a lower sensitivity to frequencies below 20 Hz..... Or they are mechanically built so that they can accept frequencies from 1 Hz and above.??? Or is it that microphones with small surface area's or diameters are not capable of detecting very low frequencies???? As with low frequencies we need really huge diameters of port holes on the microphone to be able to detect low frequencies.............
 

a mic has a mass , spring and other constants.

due to these they have different responses at diff frequencies.

usually manufactrs peak the performance at usable range by
tuning those design constants .

if a mic is to be used for very low freq. , normally it is designed
for such low band only as the inherent mass and other constants will not give
proper reqd response at other freq.s.

while theoretically u can make one , but cost is the factor.
