Hi,

I am a new beginner on Linux,and
I used to run EDA tools on SUN box.
I plan to build a new Linux machine at home, and
i don't know whether RH Linux7.3 can be installed on the latest MB like ASUS P4P800 or ABIT NF-7 ??

May someone who is familiar with RH Linux-7.3 help me to decide which MB and graphics card to choose ?

Thanks for any suggestion and comments in advance : )

you can use get help from the linux forum as www.eden.com.they suggest to the company's net to download the setup fill.

There are some trouble with you. You'd better install suse 9.0pro for the new MBs.

All you have to do is install RH7.3 and update the kernel to 2.4.20-xx

It wiould support the P4 and AMD XP platforms

Why not? I don't see any problem

For AMD XP systems, update the kernel to kernel-2.4.20-xxxx.athlon

You will experience about 5% to 10% performance improvement.

For P4 with FSB800/HT/socket478, you "must" update your kernel to smp-2.4.20-xxx.i686 to enable your Ultra DMA IDE Harddisk.

For Dual XEON with FSB533/HT, you have to compile kernel to enable Ultra DMA for your IDE harddisks.

Be aware, SATA cannot be supported in RH7.3/8. Do not use it.

Above cases have been tested on ASUS/EPOX MB's for more than one-year-usage.

Why use so old version of Linux for latest MB. The Latest MB is 64bits (AMD's CPU is better). Try use 64 bits Linux version, which can also run 32bits SW.

Use a nForce2 with an 2.5GHz XP-Mobile. NVIDIA support chipset and IGP driver for RH7.3. This combination beat everthing with 32-bit EDA software!
