Hi everyone
So I built the example circuit in the datasheet that takes in 3.6v from 3 AA nimh batteries and outputs 5.1v, initially when I connected my load which draws 400ma the output voltage dropped to like 4v. What is the reason for this? (sorry i am still learning)

After seeing the result I increased the input voltage to 4.8v by adding another battery, now I can draw 400ma without any significant drop (~4.97v) in output voltage.

Now I am wondering, am I running this ic beyond its limits because on the datasheet it says

Continuous Power Dissipation (TA = +70°C)
Plastic DIP (derate 9.09mW/°C above +70°C) .............727mW
SO (derate 5.88mW/°C above +70°C)..........................471mW

727mW maximum, what does that mean? in my circuit the ic is outputting
2W = 5v*400mA
