Hello,

I am using Altium 10.

I wish to do an SMT inductor footprint.

I wish it to have a silscreen outline, and also i wish to have a courtyard outline (the 'courtyard' outline is not for printing on the pcb, but is just showing the maximum outline of the component and can be used for collision avoidance.

I cannot see this 'courtyard' layer in the "layer colors" dialog box, do you know where it is?

Also, Altium offers me 'wizards' to make components, but to be honest, i am not sure how to use these and simply wish to size and place pads down myself....but are there any youtube videos etc which show how to do this?

you can use some mechanical layer(any spare mechanical layer which you are not using anywhere else) for providing courtyard line.
I think you can also add layers in Altium so if you still want courtyard layer you can add that in Altium but I would suggest better to use some existiing mechanical layer.

Hi,
I you are not able to make or you have doubts whatever footprint you made then try to browse altium site there you will get so many readymade footprints.

ifi cant see the mechanical layers in the layers window, how do i get them there?

hi,
Press L (shortcut) and enable the required mechanical layer or go to design/Board layers and colors.
