Filter Basics

I'm doing my electrical engineering and have this digital filters course.
The course itself is very easy, as in if we solve the posted assignments then we can do good, but the problem is that my basics are very weak.
In the first part of the course, we dealt with poles and zeros, transfer functions, notch filters. Now we're learning different types of filters like Butterworth, Chebyshev.
I don't really understand how these filters work. What they do to the input signal and what comes out of the filter. I tried looking up on the internet and it was of no help. I can go ask my prof but he complicates things more for me.

What I need is a nice organized website that will help me learn all the basics of filters and why and when fourier transforms, convolution are applied and also have practical examples.
Honestly, I don't understand anything unless I get an example. So just reading the theory doesn't really help me.

If there is any question that you guys want to ask me to make my life even easier please go ahead and ask.

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Filter Basics

Of course, the best thing is to read a suitable textbook.
However, I think it should be (and it is) possible to find an introductory course/article in the internet. But it is not easy to discriminate between good and bad sources.
Good luck

Thanks a ton for the websites!
I will surely check them out soon, as I have to study for my other course's midterm right now.
If I have questions, I'll post them here.
Thank You
