I am working with a 24VDC system and need to actuate a solinoid valve every 2nd time that I get a signal. We dont have a PLC so I am trying to do it with relays. Does anyone know of a way to do this or another componant that may be helpful? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks FoxyRick, This looks like a very doable solution. I will let you know how it turns out.

Maybe exotic (I don't know): a 'step' relay is available from some manufacturers, e.g. Finder. I only used it once
(to switch on/off a mains load based on a push-switch). It is more expensive of course : ( but was convenient, I
needed a quick solution to turn on/off the waste disposer in a kitchen!

What is the duration of solenoid activation or it is just like a bistable. Every second pulse turns it on or off?

It is bistable. Example: Pulse 1=on, Pulse 2=off.

If you dont want to use relays, here iis a simle solution.
Bistable operation

Bistable operation with skipping pulse

Alertlinks, These look a little out of my league for right now however i would love to learn all about this. Will the second one acctually work like a flip flop?

Bistable operation with skipping pulse

Both circuits work like flip flop. The difference is,
The first one work like this.------ Pulse1->on. Pulse2->off then repeat------
The second is--------- Pulse1->on. Pulse2->No action. Pulse3->off. Pulse4-> No action then repeat------
