Looking for resources on broadband RF repeaters

Repeater [hlp]

Hi Sience mans;
I want to know about broadband RF repeaters (theory, applications, block diagram, ...). Can anyone help me?
Is there any book relating this topic? pls introduce.

Look for any basic microwave engineering textbooks. The most widely known is that for Pozar available in this forum (do the search).
An RF repeater means that we have an RF amplifier with gain = 1. The theory, applications, block diagrams are those of RF amplifiers.

But I think that your explaination is not complete and may be false.

I think that gain of a repeater must be greater than one, so that it would be useful.
What's your opinion?

You're right, there's a gain for the repeater (not 1 though). There's a principal difference between an amplifiers and repeater, which is that the repeater reconstructs the signal (and set it to the same old transmitted signal before any losses) and generates this new one.

I searched the pdf of the microwave books written by Pozar and Collin, but didn't found any results for "repeater". Can you advise me any other book or paper?

I have a narrow band repeater sitting right here beside me. If you have a amateur radio license and you are ever in the Syracuse, NY area, tune your 2m FM transmitter to 147.945 MHz and transmit. The few microvolts of signal that make it to my repeater antenna (at 23 meters high) goes to the receiver, is downcoverted and demodulated. The resulting audio is then used to modulate a transmitter at 147.345 MHz. The transmitter delivers 70 watts back to the same antenna (through a duplexer so it does not blow out the receiver). That is a lot more gain than zero dB!

To find info on broad band repeaters, I suggest you search for books on communications satelites. I worked on a few myself for a few years after graduating (GE Valley Forge Space Division), and there is an amazing number of ways to do it. They all have their respective advantages and disadvantages, this means that you will have a lot of opportunity to make mistakes...you will do well to research the area carefully.

Hello elf61,

Remember that a repeater is just an amplifier that has the feature of reconstructing the original signal (transmitted) and retransmits it on different frequency for a certain range (distance). Another interesting note is that, if any frequency, say 30 MHz, is used for communication in any country, say Egypt, this frequency can be used in any other country (provided that there are no repeaters between Egypt and the other country).

I have looked for repeater as a keyword in those books i have in my database.
