hi,

is anybody aware of a voltage regulator for -5V, 3A output current? All I could come up with are the usual 7905 types which have only up to 1.5A of output current.

If I cannot find anything, I could use two separate 7905 but that's not exactly my favorite solution since I'd like to keep the PCB and number of components small.
Thanks for any hints.

79T05,if you ever could find it.
Don't you dare to connect two voltage regulators in parallel!Any difference in voltages will lead to using just one of them.
(You can do that by using some very small resistors at the outputs each of the regulators. 0.1ohms will do.This however will reduce the output voltage by 0.15V.)

i'll see if i can find it anywhere but i don't have my hopes high...

I know. I have to supply up to 9 separate PCBs with 0.3A each. So I can connect 3 PCBs to each 7905. It just makes testing and the layout more difficult since I also have to route some other voltages to the socket...

8) the regulator available in TO3 package can give around three amp current, but it is not advisable to take that much current from them,a 50 % derating is recommended. anyway with a 3 amp current the power desipation will be more than 10 watt . it is advisable to go for switching regulator kind of power supply.

A switching regulator would be an option, however, I could not find one for negative voltages :(

Look,if you are so keen on using just ONE regulator, you can use one 7905 "boosted" by an external transistor .The current you can source in this way is limited only by the transistor and its heatsink. The additional components are one resistor and one power NPN transistor.

use 2 TO220 pakage LM7905 for parallel,
or use TO247 LM7905 have 3A current capcity.

Hi miho

LM333 is an adjustable 3-terminal negative voltage regulator capable of supplying -3.0A
