Hello,
I plan to use a laser emitter (instead of photodiode) with iRDA technology to get long range communication (up to 1km and more if possible).
Do you know any product, DIY project or link from where I can start from?
It is for unidirectional data transmission from the laser (with lens) to a photodiode. No back.
It is for outdoor usage, so yes there would be dirt , fog, dust...
Laser class 1 power.
Use standard irda data rates from SIR (MIR is a plus) using standard irda encoder/decoder chip.
'IR' tells me the laser is infra-red, invisible. You probably have your reasons for choosing that wavelength and maybe you have a solution for these concerns below:
* Aiming at a small target 1 km distance. Wouldn't this be easier with a visible laser? There are pet toys which might serve your purpose.
* During setup experiments, it's easy to place one's eye in the laser path inadvertently. The risk is blindness (more so with an invisible laser). A red or green laser dot should show up in a cheap telescope. One person may be able to set things up by himself.
