I have a clean computer with four smaller HD, and I want to use them in a linux system but upon installation the linux fdisk seems to find only three of them. Any idea what is going wrong?

This is not possible , or the HD not function or you have hda , hdb hdc and hde in your system... try fdisk /dev/hde (for check that fourth HD function)
