I dropped out of algebra 2 in high school 45 years ago so any answer will need to be real basic and simplified.

I have a cable being stretched, I need to change this motion into compression.

I am open to any suggestions on how to do this, the best method I can come up with would be to use a rotating cam. There would be a maximum of 180˚ rotation and out of this rotation I need 1/8" compression at 180˚. The full 180˚ rotation is not required.

What would be the math involved? How would the center point of rotation be determined?

What would the profile of the cam look like? Would the compression be linear or would it be on a curve?

So how is that for my first question? There will be more.

Thanks for the help,

Ralph
