I am designing a circuit to step up 3.7V (li-ion battery, protected 18650) to 5V. I am using a MAX608 Step-Up DC-DC Controller. I want to use an external N-MOSFET from IRF (IRL3714LPBF) MOSFET N-CH 20V 36A TO-262 and a 22uH inductor (SUMIDA RCH 855 or equivalent). I have two questions.

1- The datasheet for MAX608 says "can supply up to 10W". This means a current of 2A @ 5V. But the datasheet also says that by changing a resistance (Rsense), we can get outputs if 3A @ 5V as well. That would mean a power of 15W. Can someone help me with this discrepancy? I am thinking this should not be a problem since the switching FET is outside the FET and the MAX608 only acts as the regulator, right?

2- Would the 22uH inductor be enough for the 3A application? If yes, can someone please suggest a through hole version with a Ferrite core (or equivalent. Powder core is not recommended for high switching frequency)
