ldpc optimizer

As I have understood:

LDPC codes can have fixed number of variable nodes and check nodes but its degree distribution i,e number of edges connected to variable nodes and number of edges connected to check nodes can be varied to achieve a maximum threshold over which the decoding probability of errors goes to zero.

To optimize this degree distribution means to find how many edges should be connected to variable and check nodes so that probability of decoding go to zero in comparatively fewer steps.(number of variable nodes and check nodes is kept constant during degree distribution optimization)

Please correct me if I am wrong as I am not sure whether this explanation is right or wrong.
