My LCD is only showing the backlight. No characters are shown. while working, I checked the microcontroller pins and they are all working properly. While connecting LCD, i have not given any resistance to backlight. Is that a problem? Would that cause, my LCD to burn?

Yes Iam doing project on breadboard. The proteus simulation was ok. TO CHECK MY LCD, I just connected 16 pin to gnd and 15 pin to +5v. Only backlight was lit.?

You are describing pin 15 and pin 16, hope you have connected the data and control pins as well. Without these connection and some timing and delay manipulation you cant expect any thing on display. It would have been nice if you could have attached the circuit schematic so that experts could come up with to the point solution.

I got my problem. It was the pin 3. It must be connected to ground for high contrast of characters
